CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
focuses on changing negative thoughts, behaviors, and emotions to improve mental health and overall well-being. It is believed that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected and that by changing our negative thought patterns we can alter how we feel and behave. CBT is a structured, goal-oriented, and time-limited therapy that typically involves identifying and challenging negative thought patterns, developing coping strategies, and practicing new behaviors in real-life situations. It has been shown to be effective in treating a variety of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
Trauma-Informed Therapy
is a strengths-based framework founded on the recognition and responsiveness to the impact of trauma. It emphasises physical, psychological, and emotional safety, creating opportunities for survivors to rebuild a sense of control and empowerment.
Motivational interviewing (MI)
helps individuals resolve ambivalence about making positive changes in their lives. It is based on the belief that people are more likely to change their behavior when they feel motivated and empowered to do so. The goal of motivational interviewing is to create a safe and supportive environment where individuals can explore their feelings and attitudes towards change. It is often used in the treatment of substance abuse, but has also been shown to be effective in other areas such as health behavior change, weight loss, and medication adherence. MI is a collaborative and person-centered approach that respects the autonomy and self-determination of the individual.
Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT)
focuses on identifying and building solutions rather than dwelling on problems. The goal of SFT is to help individuals create a clear and concise picture of their desired future and develop a plan to achieve it. This therapy approach is based on the belief that people have the resources and strengths within themselves to overcome their difficulties and achieve their goals. SFT is a collaborative process between the therapist and the individual, helping them identify their strengths and resources and build on them. The focus is on creating a positive, solution-oriented mindset that empowers the individual to take action towards achieving their desired future.
Mindfulnessis a type of self-awareness training derived from Buddhist mindfulness meditation. It has been adapted for use in the treatment of a variety of mental health conditions. Mindfulness is paying full attention to what is going on in you and outside you, moment by moment, and without judgement.
Positive psychology
is a branch of psychology that focuses on the study of positive emotions, experiences, and traits that contribute to human flourishing and well-being. Positive psychology aims to shift the focus of traditional psychology from the study of mental illness and dysfunction to the study of positive human experiences such as happiness, well-being, and flourishing. It draws on various theories and research from areas such as neuroscience, social psychology, and cognitive psychology. The field of positive psychology has contributed to the development of new interventions and therapies that focus on enhancing positive emotions, building resilience, and improving overall well-being.
